Andrew Darnell Waters, 57, passed away on March 26, 2018 at Augusta University Medical Center after an extended illness.
He was a 1978 graduate of Evans High School, Evans, Georgia. He was in the band and on the tennis and basketball teams. He attended Augusta University, Augusta, GA, where he was a founding member of the Alpha Tau Omega chapter, and graduated from Georgia Southern University, Statesboro, Georgia with a B.S. in Criminal Justice. He served in the USMC Reserves. He played in many local bands but was a member of The Variations of Statesboro, Georgia for over 25 years. He retired as a counselor after 20 years from the Bulloch County Correctional Institute. Andy followed in his father's footsteps and was a member of the Alee Shrine Temple, Savannah, GA, and an emeritus member of the Ezel Chapter of the Masonic Lodge, Claxton, GA, and a past Worshipful Master. Andy was a kind loving person and participated in countless fundraisers to assist others.
Andy is predeceased by his father James H. Waters, his brother Albert Monroe Waters and his sister Sheila McGill Lowe as well as his maternal grandparents James Mack and Alma B. Arnold and his paternal grandparents Foy and Ruth Waters of Manassas, Georgia. He is survived by his mother Dorothy A. Waters of Claxton, his sister Penny Waters Salter (Ray) of Ludowici, GA, Emilie Waters Bowles (Ralph) of Sylvania, Georgia, twin sister Sissy Waters Hobbs (Allen), Martinez, GA, and baby sister Jamie Waters Usry (Brad) of Evans, Georgia. Aunts: Maxine McElveen and Linda Waters, Savannah, GA. Uncles: Robert J. and William M. Arnold, Savannah, GA. Fiancé, Lavonna Johnson, his true love, Waynesboro, GA, and her daughter Deanna Hudson, Millen, GA, and Pa to Caden, Addison and Raelynn. He was loved by many nephews and nieces who will miss him greatly and always thought of him as the "cool" Uncle who was always there with a helping hand.
Visitation will be held Friday, March 30, at 11 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Claxon with funeral service to follow at 1 p.m. Burial will be at Evergreen Church Cemetery.
