OBITUARY
CLAXTON: Anthony (Tony) Harvey Smith, 67, passed away May 8, 2014 at Ogeechee Area Hospice in Statesboro. Tony was a lifelong resident of Evans County, and a member of New Vision Church of Claxton.
Tony was preceded in death by his parents Holmes and Vera Smith; daughter, Amanda Smith Dryden; brother, Craig Smith and Great Aunt “Other Mama” Lera Ivey.
Tony graduated from Claxton High School in 1964, then joined the United States Army for two years. After returning to Evans County he coached Little League Baseball for twenty-five years, mentoring many Evans County youth. He was a 2010 graduate of Emory Candler School of Theology. He served Manassas, Collins, Cobbtown, Midville and Union Grove United Methodist Churches, retiring in 2011. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and was dedicated to his ministry even after retirement.
SURVIORS: wife Janice (Jan) Evans Smith; one son Troy (Cinesta) Moore of Washington; three daughters, Claudia (Mike) O’Shea of Texas, Michelle (Scott) Parker of Glennville, and Lori Smith Oliver of Collins; three sisters, Vickie (Terry) Branch, Donna (Larry) Tuten and Nancy (Gary) Tippins; seven grandchildren, Antonio Christensen, Cheryl O’Shea, Michael O’Shea, Andrew Parker, Brandon Parker, Matthew Oliver and Gabe Dryden; one Great Granddaughter, Anastasia Christensen
