CLAXTON: Charles Leon Tipton, 89, passed away March 15, 2017, at Evans Memorial Hospital. The Kentucky native had resided in Evans County for 30 years. He was a member of Waco Baptist Church. Mr. Tipton served his country during WWII in the U.S. Navy and during the Korean War he served in the U. S. Marines. He retired from Westinghouse, but he loved farming.
Mr. Tipton was preceded in death by his parents, Tom R. and Carolina Tipton, and a beloved son, Leon Frank Tipton.
SURVIVORS: his wife of 66 years, Lavenia Tipton of Claxton; two sons, Eddie Tipton of Statesboro and Carl Tipton of Claxton; one brother, James Rowland Tipton of Waco, KY; two sisters, Betty Jean Mayfield of N. Little Rock, AR., and Anna Frances Barfield of Havana, FL; two grandchildren, Tiffany (Trent) Todd of Brooklet and Danielle (Matthew) Barrow of Claxton; five great-grandchildren, Demi and Nicholas Johnston and Tanner, Ty and Trace Todd; and several nieces and nephews.
VISITATION: Friday, March 17, 2017, 5-7:00 p.m., at J. Mellie NeSmith Funeral Home.
FUNERAL: Saturday, March 18, 2017, 1:00 p.m., at J. Mellie NeSmith Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Justin Gordon officiating.
BURIAL: Beards Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.
PALLBEARERS: Nicholas Johnston, Trent Todd, Ty Todd, Tanner Todd, Josh Griner and Kyle Mark Tipton.
