Clara Mae Walker, 81, formerly of Cedar Crossing, died April 2 at her home in Claxton. She was the daughter of the late Jake and Myrtle Willis of Cedar Crossing. She lived in Savannah before moving to Houston, Tex; where she lived for 11 years before moving to Claxton in 1989 after her husbands retirement. She was a wife, mother and homemaker. She was of Pentacostal faith and a member of Oasis Church of God in Lyons.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Vernon Walker; her son Norman Walker; eight brothers; I.J., Bennie, A.J., J.F. (Bobie), J. Lee, Paul, Doug, and baby boy Willis; six sisters, Julia Register, Laura Pittman, Cassie Smith, Vernie Willis, Betty Franklin, and baby girl Willis.
Surviving are three sons, Vern L. (Marcia) Walker, and Dudley (Debra) Walker, both of Houston, Tex., Wayne Walker of Claxton; two daughters, Bernice Hatfield of Claxton, Wanda and (Buddy) Dees of Cedar Crossing; two sisters and brothers-in- law, Patsy and (Jerry) Newham, of Uvalda, Alice and ( Mickey) Ryals of Townsend; two brothers-in-law, Hubert Franklin, and Aaron Walker; four sisters-in-law, Doris Willis, Mary Lou Willis, Cathy Willis and Shirley Strickland; 22 grandchildren, 39 great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Thursday, April 4, 6-8 p.m. at Mellie NeSmith Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held Friday, April 5, 1 p.m. at Mellie NeSmith Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Bishop Gilbert Womack, her nephew Jason Ryals, and her grandson Dean Walker officiating.
Pallbearers will be Clifford Brantley, David Neesmith, Jason Ryals, Travis Willis, Aaron Walker Jr., and Wilton Strickland.
Honorary pallbearers are Brian Burgamy and Deon Brantley.
Burial will be in Cedar Crossing Cemetery.
