CLAXTON: Daniel Marvin Strickland, born October 21, 1938, in Evans County, passed away December 28, 2012.
The Evans County native was a graduate of Claxton High School, Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College and then received his Engineering Degree from the University of Georgia.
Upon graduation from UGA he returned to Claxton and began working in the family business, Claxton Oil Company, and recently celebrated his 50th year of operating the business.
Among his accomplishments he was a Director of The Tippins Bank and a member of Daisy United Methodist Church, Morgan’s Chapel Methodist Church, Claxton Rotary Club, Claxton Jaycees, Evans County Wildlife Club, Georgia Oilmen’s Association, Georgia Propane Gas Association, Evans County Chamber of Commerce, Industrial Development Authority, Georgia Motor Trucking Association, Historical Society, National Rifle Association, Future Farmers of America, U.S. Army Reserve and a Charter Member of Ducks Unlimited.
Danny was preceded in death by his father, Ernest W. Strickland, and mother, Rubye D. Strickland, two brothers, Lex W. Strickland and Gerald L. Strickland.
SURVIVORS: his wife of 53 years, Brenda Strickland of Claxton; three children, Tonya (Gill) Sikes, Tara Strickland and Keith (JoAnn) Strickland of Claxton; one brother, Jim (Norma) Strickland of Glennville; granddaughter, Harley Strickland; step-grandson, Rashe (Amanda) Collins; and step-great-grandson, Gabe Collins; and many nieces and nephews.
VISITATION: Sunday, December 30, 2012, 4-7:00 p.m., at J. Mellie NeSmith Funeral Home in Claxton.
FUNERAL: Monday, December 31, 2012, 11:00 a.m., at Daisy United Methodist Church.
BURIAL: Bay Branch Primitive Baptist Church cemetery. Dinner will follow the service at Bay Branch.
HONORARY PALLBEARERS: Claxton Oil Company employees; The Tippins Bank Directors, Kenneth Durrence, Carroll Anderson and Paul Eason; and, Todd Brothers Southern Gentlemen’s Supper Club.
