OBITUARY
CLAXTON: Mrs. Gloria Smith Thomas Overstreet passed away on September 3, 2014. Mrs. Overstreet was a native of Chatham County, now residing in Claxton Ga. for the past 16 years. Gloria was the daughter of Leon and Nancy Smith, sister of Jo Smith Fetzer who preceded her in death. She was a graduate of Savannah High School, and received her higher education from Wesleyan Conservatory, School of Fine Arts in Macon Ga., and Florida State University in Tahallassee Fla., She was a career musican and educator, and was an independent piano teacher until 1998, when she retired. She taught many local students in the Savannah community. Mrs. Overstreet served as church organist and choir director at Aldersgate Methodist Church in Savannah, Ga,. She taught music at Pape School and Music Appreciation at Savannah Country Day School. She was also a member and former President of the Savannah Piano Teachers Club, and a member of The Music Teachers National Association, She was a member of The Lachlan Mclntosh, Chapter of the D.A.R. Mrs. Overstreet was an accomplished artist. Her watercolors and acrylic paintings hang in many homes in Savannah, Claxton South Carolina, and Moscow Russia, USSR. Before moving to Claxton she was a member of The Calvary Baptist Temple, in Savannah Ga., and Pianist for two large Sunday School Adult Departments at Calvary and later a member of White Bluff Presbyterian Church, where she served as pianist and substitute organist for 12years. Mrs. Overstreet was a member of First Baptist Church, Claxton, Ga., where she was pianist for many, many years and later church organist.
SURVIORS: husband Donald H. Overstreet of Claxton, Ga,. Daughter Miss Linda Thomas, Daughter and son-in-law, Claire and Edward Boinest, both of Charleston, SC. Son Michael Thomas of Savannah Ga. Grandchildren Haley Boinest and Chip Boinest both of Charleston, SC. Sister in law Faye Morgan and Husband Buddy Morgan of Guyton, Ga. Stepdaughter Katrina Overstreet and Donna Murphy and two step grandchildren, Ashley Murphy and Ross Jackson, all of Windsor CT. Several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
