BELLVILLE: Janara Blalock McCoy, 79, passed away Friday, May 24th at Evans Memorial Hospital. She was born in Statesboro and was the only child of Alvin and Melrose Anderson Blalock. She lived most of her childhood and adult life in Bellville. She attended school in Bellville and then attended and graduated from Claxton High School in 1963, where she was named “Wittiest” of her Senior Class. She enjoyed meeting monthly with her “Girls Group of the Class of 1963” for lunch. During high school she met her future husband, Bobby A. McCoy at the Soda Shop. They were married in November of 1963 and celebrated 54 years of marriage at the time of his death in 2018. She began her bookkeeping career for her father’s business, Blalock’s Garage which later transitioned to McCoy Auto Parts as a partnership with her husband. In the late 1960’s and early 1970’s she was a contributing writer of the column, “The Bellville News Notes” in The Claxton Enterprise. She had a lifetime passion for music. She loved to sing, write songs, and could play the piano by ear. Her favorite performer was Elvis Presley. Her favorite pastime was singing and listening to music while rocking in her rocking chair.
Janara joined the Bellville Methodist Church in 1974. During her membership there, she sang in the church choir and served as church treasurer. She was a most dedicated caregiver to her parents.
SURVIVORS: two sons and a daughter in law, Darin and Anita McCoy and Jody McCoy of Bellville. Three grandchildren, Lyndi M. McBride, Olivia Grace McCoy, and Wyatt McCoy. Two great-grandchildren, Hollyn and Evie McBride.
VISITATION: Sunday, May 26, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at J. Mellie NeSmith Funeral Home.
FUNERAL: Sunday, May 26, 2024 at 4:00 p.m. at J. Mellie NeSmith Funeral Home Chapel.
BURIAL: Canoochee Church Cemetery, 392 Canoochee Church Road, near Claxton.
Her family is most grateful for the excellent care she received during the past several months at Evans Memorial Hospital and Camellia Health and Rehabilitation.
