CLAXTON: Joe G. Strickland, 83, passed away August 17, 2013 at St. Joseph Hospital in Savannah after a short illness. The Evans County native was the son of the late Charlie Clinton and Mittie Purcell Strickland. He was preceded in death by his son Joe G. (Jo-Jo)Strickland, Jr.; brothers, Henry, C C, and David Strickland; sisters, Georgia Bell, Versie, Dicy, and Lilly Mae. Mr. Strickland served his Country in the U.S. Army for two years. He was a dedicated member of Daisy United Methodist Church serving on many different boards throughout the years. Mr. Strickland worked and retired after 32 years with Georgia Farm Bureau Insurance Co., where he served Evans, Bryan and Chatham Counties. Mr. Strickland was active in community, civic, and Church activities. He was a long time Chamber of Commerce member, member of the Evans County Wildlife Club, Evans County Farm Bureau and was past member of the Claxton Rotary Club.
SURVIVORS: his wife of 57 years, Annette Waters Strickland, of Claxton; one son, Berry Strickland, and one grandson, Nicholas Strickland, both of Claxton; a sister, Grace (Howell) Sapp of Claxton; sister-in-laws, Martha Strickland of Claxton, Marjore (Bill) Lahnen, of Jacksonville Fl., Sylvia (Jerry) Hollies of Jesup and Joye Letourneau of Rincon; several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
VISITATION: Tuesday, August 20, 2013 5-8 P.M., at Mellie NeSmith Funeral Home.
FUNERAL: Wednesday, August 21, 2013 11:00 A.M. at Daisy United Methodist Church.
