OBITUARY

CLAXTON: Margaret C. Smith, age 96, passed away Wednesday, September 25, 2013 at the Dublin V.A. Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 27, 2013 at 11:00 AM in the First Baptist Church, Dublin. Dr. Cliff Morris will officiate. Prior to the funeral service, visitation will be held at 10:00 AM in the church sanctuary. Graveside services with military honors will be held at Bull Creek Baptist Cemetery, Claxton, Georgia, at 3:00 PM., Dr. Tab Smith will officiate. Following the graveside service, visitation will be held in the Bull Creek Baptist Church Social Hall.
​Margaret was born on May 30, 1917 at Welshpool, Campobello Island, New Brunswick, Canada. She was the daughter of the late Frank and Edith North Cline. She was preceded in death by her brothers Donald, Edward, and George Cline, all of Campobello Island, New Brunswick, Canada.
​Margaret graduated from Shead Memorial High School, Eastport, Maine in 1937 and Springfield Hospital School of Nursing in 1941. Following graduation, she joined the U. S. Army Nurse Corps, serving in the 49th Station Hospital, Bristol, England during World War II. She met her late husband, B. E. Smith, in England in 1944; and was later married in Buckden, England on May 6, 1945.
​Margaret lived most of her life in Dublin, Georgia, where she was a member of the First Baptist Church. After 30 years as a registered nurse, she retired from the Carl Vinson V.A. Hospital in Dublin.
​After retirement, Margaret and B. E. enjoyed traveling and spending time at their home on Campobello Island, New Brunswick, Canada; and their cabin on the Sapelo River, Pine Harbor, Georgia.
​Survivors include five sons: Stephen (Debra) Smith, Jeffrey Smith, and Tim Smith of Dublin, Craig (Lynn) Smith of Savannah, and Gary (Jean) Smith of Eastman. She had twelve grandchildren Derek (Kristle) Smith, Lori Wilson and Brad (Maranda) Smith of Dublin, Holly (Jeffrey) LaFrance of Oxford, Connecticut, Ashley (Philip) Mobley of Woodstock, Heather Taylor of Roswell, Clint (Jessica) Smith and Britney Harkins of Savannah, Jason Smith of Daisy, Sandi (Daniel) Collins of Cobbtown, Andrew (Amanda) Smith of Searcy, Arkansas, and Shelby Burnham of Eastman. Eleven great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Priscilla (Bill) Hearn of Daisy, Georgia; and niece Elizabeth (Jack) Dinsmore of Millinocket, Maine, also survive her.
​Derek Smith, Brad Smith, Clint Smith, Jason Smith, Andrew Smith, Jeffery LaFrance, Philip Mobley, and Daniel Collins will serve as pallbearers.
​In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the First Baptist Church Building Fund, 405 Bellevue Ave., Dublin, GA 31021; or Bull Creek Baptist Church General Fund, 549 Bull Creek Church Road, Claxton, GA 30417.
​Stanley Funeral Home of Dublin and Mellie NeSmith Funeral Home of Claxton will be in charge of arrangements.
