CLAXTON: Melvin Sapp, 78, passed away Sunday, September 15, 2013, at Candler Hospital in Savannah. The native and lifelong resident of Evans County was a member and Deacon of Bible Holiness Church in Hagan. He was a pecan grower and a member of the Georgia Pecan Association. Mr. Sapp retired after 40 years of service to Independent Life Insurance Company. He was the recipient of the 2012 Soil and Water Conservationist award for Evans County.
SURVIVORS: his wife of 58 years, Betty Duck Sapp of Claxton; three sons and daughters-in-law, Kevin and Brenda Sapp of Jacksonville, FL, Keith and Donna Sapp of Claxton, and Deryl and Jennifer Sapp of Ft. Worth, TX; four sisters, Elizabeth (Lib) Hendrix, Ann Lynn and Vydene Drake, all of Claxton, and Yvonne Barber of Sylvania; six grandchildren, Deann (David) Millis, Brian (Gloria) Sapp, Craig (Brianna) Sapp, Lori, Katrina, and Derek Sapp; and five great-grandchildren, Brandon and Caden Millis, Connor, Ella, and Harper Sapp; and several nieces and nephews.
VISITATION: Tuesday, September 17, 5-8:00 p.m., at J. Mellie NeSmith Funeral Home.
FUNERAL: Wednesday, September 18, 11:00 a.m., at J. Mellie NeSmith Funeral Home Chapel.
BURIAL: Canoochee Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.
