CLAXTON: Patricia (Patty) Perkins Kennedy, 78, passed away Wednesday, June 19, 2013. She was a lifelong resident of Evans County and was a member of Claxton First Baptist Church and Bay Branch Primitive Baptist Church, where she was a faithful Sunday School Teacher and member her entire adult life. She was a former member of the Claxton Mothers Club and the GLRC Ladies Auxillary.
Patty graduated from Claxton High School in 1952 and went directly to Warren Candler Nursing School, where she became a registered nurse in 1955. She worked with Dr. Curtis G. Hames for 20+ years until he retired. She worked several years at the Claxton Nursing Home and taught nursing for the CETA Skill Center. When health education was introduced in the school system, she was asked to become the first Health Occupations Teacher at CHS, and worked with the Evans County Board of Education until her retirement 17 years later. She decided to work part time after her retirement and went to work at The Sutton Place in Glennville and worked 2 more years.
Mrs. Kennedy was interest in painting and made over 100 porcelain dolls. She was a loving, devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lawson and Loulie Daniel Perkins.
SURVIVORS: her husband of 57 years, Bobby Kennedy of Bellville; two daughters, Diane (Tommy) Lynn and Lu (Allen) Durrence, all of Bellville; two sisters-in-law, Lalah Kennedy of Claxton and Elaine (Stan) Kennedy Bullington of Atlanta; four grandchildren, Andrew Durrence, Daniel (Page) Lynn, Allison (Matt) Durrence Buck and Ashlee Lynn and one great-grandchild, Avery Kennedy Buck; and several beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.
VISITATION: Friday, June 21, 2013, 5-8:00 p.m., at J. Mellie NeSmith Funeral Home.
FUNERAL: Saturday, June 22, 2013, 11:00 a.m., at Bay Branch Primitive Baptist Church.
BURIAL: Bay Branch Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.
HONORARY PALLBEARERS: Deacons of Bay Branch Primitive Baptist Church.
