CLAXTON: Dr. Paul J. LaSala, 69, passed away surrounded by family on April
15, 2016, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Savannah, GA. The New Jersey native graduated
high school in 1965 and attended Belmont Abbey College before enlisting in the U.S.
Army Dental Corps and serving one tour of duty in the Vietnam War. Upon his return
from service, he graduated with honors from Georgia State College in Atlanta in 1971
and then attended the Medical College of Georgia, where he earned a doctoral degree
in denstistry in 1975.
Doc (as he was known) opened his dental practice in Claxton, Georgia, in 1975,
where he served his community for over 40 years. During this time, he was a member
if the Ezel Lodge and the Claxton Rotary Club. He also enjoyed riding motorcycles and
pursuing body building. In 2007, Dr. LaSala was awarded overall Masters Men National
Champion in the over 60 division. He was a member of Our Lady Star of the Sea
Church in Ponte Vedra Beach, FL.
SURVIVORS: his wife of 19 years, Katalin LaSala of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL; four
sons, Rocky (and wife, Leigh) of Morgantown, WV, Scott (and wife, Zizi) of Mooresvile,
NC, Michael (and wife, Kelly) of Claxton and Alex of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL; two
brothers, Vernon (and wife, Joyce) of Port Orange, FL, and Peter (and wife, Annette) of
Penns Grove, NJ; six grandchildren, Dake, Leah, Eva, Simon, Emma and Michael; and
several nieces and nephews.
