Robert Dean Mathis of McKinney, Texas, formerly of Claxton, age 30, died Thursday, July 21 at Baylor McKinney Hospital. Robert was born in Weisbaden, Germany to Jim Ray and Sherrie Laverne Mathis. Robert’s dad was career military. He graduated from Claxton High School in 2004 and was involved in the band. He always loved animals that later led him to work at Petsmart. He also worked at DFW Vapor of Micking.
While working in Claxton he met the love of his life, Madelyn Riveria. They later joined in a covenant union. They have three daughters, Tianna Maddy Mathis, Khaleesy Zeruiah Mathis and Xerina Leihlani Mathis.
He is survived by his wife and daughters of McKinney, Texas; his dad, Jim and Evie Mimbs Mathis of East Dublin, Ga.; his mother, Sherrie Laverne Hunt of Claxton; a brother, Chris Mathis of Claxton; bonus brothers, Shane Mimbs of East Dublin and Fabian Rivera of McKinney, Texas; bonus sister, Crystal Mimbs Smith of Lyons; his grandmother, Marjorie Mathis; aunt, Mari Wallace; uncle, Jay Mathis of Oklahoma; grandparents, Ennis Hiram and Mattie Lou Eason of Claxton; granddad, Ewing L. Mathis; great-gradparents, Robert E. and Lora Mathis, Ernest and Floy Coleman of Texas; a host of family and friends.
Visitation will be held Thursday, July 28, from 9-10 a.m.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at Mellie NeSmith Funeral Home. Burial will be in Brewton Cemetery.
