CLAXTON: Sallie Strickland Hendrix, 94, passed away April 30, 2017, at her home, under Bethany Hospice. The Bryan County native lived in Evans County for most of her life. She was a loving member of Nevils Creek Primitive Baptist Church. Ms. Sallie was a homemaker that loved taking care of her family, including her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Hendrix was preceded in death by her husbands, John Strickland and Edward Hendrix, and by a son, Willie Strickland.
SURVIVORS: one son, Pete Strickland of Claxton; one daughter, Linda (Tommy) Thompson of Scotland Neck, NC; three brothers, Junior (Carolyn) Young of Claxton, Robert (Bobbie) Burnsed of Guyton and Gennis (Rosie) Kerby of Bloomingdale; 15 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and 9 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
VISITATION: Wednesday, May 3, 10-11:00 a.m., at J. Mellie NeSmith Funeral Home.
FUNERAL: Wednesday, May 3, 2017, 11:00 a.m., at J. Mellie NeSmith Funeral Home Chapel with Eld. Jerry Lightsey and Pastor Jason Mallard officiating.
BURIAL: Brewton Cemetery.
