OBITUARY
CLAXTON: William F. Eason, Jr., age 85, passed away at his residence on January 23, 2014, under the care of Ogeechee Area Hospice. Mr. Eason was a lifelong resident of Evans County and was a member of Eason Chapel United Methodist Church.
Mr. Eason was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Joy J. Eason; his infant daughter, Jennifer; his parents, Felton and Fannie Eason; four brothers: Delwood, Harry, Joe, and Edward Eason; three sisters: Martha Odum, Frances Kitchens, and Marion Gay. One brother-in-law Reginald Kitchens. He was also preceded in death by his very special nephew, David Tootle.
Surviving are brothers and sisters-in-law: Henry and Joyce Eason, Robert Eason, Michael Eason and Lawanna Potter, and Gloria Eason all of Claxton and Hilda Eason of Statesboro; one sister and brother-in-law, Hilda and Bernie Anderson of Bellville; Brother-in-Law Reginald Kitchens.
Mr. Eason is also survived by two nieces and nephew-in-law who were like his own children: Trish Tootle of Statesboro and Julie and Gil Mincey of Claxton; and their children: Matt, Talette, Athan, and Clint Tootle, Natalie Mincey, and Angela Swindell and a host of other family members who were dear to his heart.
Mr. Eason was a veteran of the United States Army, having served in combat during the Korean War. He was retired from Kaiser Chemical Company. He was an avid fisherman and loved sports, especially baseball.
The visitation will be held on Friday, January 24, 2014, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at J. Mellie NeSmith Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 25, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of J. Mellie NeSmith Funeral Home with Rev. Charles Fiveash officiating.
Interment will be in the Eason Family Cemetery.
Pallbearers are his nephews, Gil Mincey, Matt Tootle, Clint Tootle, Craig Gay, Tim Odum, and Joel Eason.
