William Derrell Warren

OBITUARY

CLAXTON: William Derrell “Derrell” Warren, 90, of Fort Mill, S.C., longtime resident of Charlotte, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 20. Derrell was born to Gordon Logue and Neva Daniel Warren in Claxton, Georgia on July 14, 1924. Derrell was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Norma DeLoach Warren, his brother, Gordon Warren, and his grandson Matthew Warren. Derrell retired from Kraft Foods Dairy Group (Sealtest) after a long career where he was an industry recognized refrigeration expert. Derrell was an Ensign in the U.S. Navy serving his country during World War II as a pilot flying the dive bomber, Curtis SB2C Hell Diver. After the war, he graduated from Georgia Tech with a BS Degree in Mechanical Engineering. In 1950, he began his long career in the dairy industry in Miami. Derrell enjoyed golf, gardening, working his 6 acres with his tractor, and his many dogs over the years. He will be missed by all who knew him. Derrell will be interred next to his wife, Norma, in his home town in Claxton, Georgia, at Bay Branch Church, on January 24, 2015. Memorials honoring the memory of Derrell may be made to the American Cancer Society, The American Humane Society, or Bay Branch Church Cemetery Fund, 393 Bay Branch Rd., Claxton, GA 30417. Condolences may be sent to the family at 5430 Finsbury PL., Charlotte, NC 28211.

SURVIORS: his sons Bill, Max Davis, Dan (Jan), Steve (Pat), Ken (Lillian), and Sid (Sharon). Survivors also include grandsons Scott (Tabitha), Evan, Will and David Warren; granddaughters Heather Canaday, Erin (Jason) Darnell, and Natalie, Faith and Charlotte Warren; great-grandsons Avery (Elizabeth), Austin and Jaxon Darnell; and many nieces and nephews.​

VISITATION: Saturday, January 25, 2015 at Mellie NeSmith Funeral Home from 1:00 -1:30 p.m.
FUNERAL: Graveside, Saturday, January 25, 2015 at Bay Branch Church Cemetery.
BURIAL: Bay Branch Church Cemetery.
