CLAXTON: Willie ‘Jerry’ Griner, 77, passed away March 27, 2018, at his residence. He was a lifelong resident of Evans County and served in the U.S. Navy. He worked for the Georgia Prison System where he was the youngest Deputy Warden and the first staff training officer for the prison system. He was an excellent carpenter and could do most anything. Jerry loved to fish, take care of the ducks in his pond, the outdoors and his family.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Lucy Mae Griner, and two brothers, Alvis and Robbie Griner.
SURVIVORS: his wife, Melinda Griner of Claxton; one son, Mitch Griner of Atlanta and two step-sons, Ron Woods of N.C., and Carter Heptinstall of Groveland; one daughter, Devi Michelle Griner of Savannah and two step-daughters, Carrie Prentice of Marrietta and Angela Ray of Williamsburg, VA; Mother-in-law, Helen Akridge of Claxton; one sister, Sue Griner of Ellabell; seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
CELEBRATION OF LIFE: will be held at a later date at his residence.
